One or more Associate Professor positions at the Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain (CNAP) (2024-224-05848) hos Aalborg Universitet

CNAP is a Centre of Excellence supported by the Danish National Research Foundation at Aalborg University, Denmark. We do frontline fundamental research to identify novel mechanisms involved in the dynamics of pain neuroplasticity and advance the understandings of this topic. The vision of CNAP is to identify and modulate key features of human pain neuroplasticity through a systematic approach, including provoking, probing, and modulating the dynamic neuroplastic properties of the pain system. We believe that this approach over time will facilitate new fundamental discoveries and change the state of the art. CNAP is an international research centre with approximately 60% of our staff from outside of Denmark and gender equality. Our world class lab facilities in brand new buildings, co-located with Aalborg University Hospital, enable advanced quantitative sensory/pain testing, application of advanced neurophysiological techniques(e.g. EEG, TMS, rTMS, HD-tDCS, neuronavigation), bio-medical techniques(e.g. epigenetics, genetics, general biomarkers, and multi-OMICS) in human experimental and clinical pain research settings as well as research based on animal models(e.g. rodents and pigs).
CNAP is affiliated to the Department of Health Science and Technology, the Faculty of Medicine, which focuses on multidisciplinary research and teaching in health science and technology(e.g., medicine and biomedical engineering). The strategic focus of the department is to be leading within digital health and being well-known for medical doctors and engineers finding solutions together. The department has more than 250 employees and is responsible for more than 1700 students.
We welcome strong applications within human experimental or clinical pain research and/or neurophysiological techniques that allows for a better understanding of pain neuroplasticity. In particular, we want to further consolidate human experimental and clinical pain research on systemic pain biomarkers(e.g., epigenetics and pain assessment) or cortical neuroplasticity relevant for pain chronification. As Associate Professor, you will be conducting high-calibre pain research, research supervision, teaching, and engagement with society at an international standard. Facilitating this, you are associated with CNAP and the department’s research group.
Who are you?
You are a committed candidate with strong research and teaching expertise. Your teaching qualifications should allow to teach at all levels(BA to PhD) within the study programmes of the Department(e.g. medicine and medicine with industrial specialization). You have a PhD(or equivalent) in medicine, bio-medicine, biomedical engineering, neuroscience, or a related field and holds a competitive research track record. It is necessary that you have a high proficiency in oral and written English, as English is our working language. National and international collaborations must be demonstrated.
The position requires strong research qualifications within pain research, neuroscience, medicine, bio-medicine, biomedical engineering, physiotherapy, physiology, or a related field, and a strong interest in fundamental, mechanistic pain research. The ideal applicant must demonstrate a documented high level of original scientific production at an international level.
You may obtain further information at our website, or from the Centre Director Professor Thomas Graven-Nielsen().

Qualification requirements:

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.
The application must contain the following:
  • A motivated text wherein the reasons for applying, qualifications in relation to the position, and intentions and visions for the position are stated.
  • A strategic research plan within topics relevant to CNAP’s strategic focus(max 2 pages).
  • A current curriculum vitae.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas(Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 10 publications.
  • Teaching qualifications described in the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
  • Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations and the like.
  • Additional qualifications in relation to the position.
  • References/recommendations.
  • Personal data.

The applications are only to be submitted online by using the"Apply online" button below.
Shortlisting will be applied. After the review of any objections regarding the assessment committee, the head of department, with assistance from the chair of the assessment committee, selects the candidates to be assessed.
