Job Description
In Vivo Pharmacology – Immuno-oncology (Senior Scientist I/II)
Our expanding In Vivo Pharmacology group in South San Francisco, CA has an opening for a motivated biologist with a focus on immuno-oncology particularly T cell biology, who is dedicated to the discovery and development of innovative therapeutics, both small molecule and biologics. The Senior Scientist I/II will design/perform tumor efficacy and PK/PD studies to understand how to effectively modulate the innate and adaptive immune system for new therapies. The scientist will work collaboratively in a project team setting with biology, medicinal chemistry, biologics, and DMPK scientists to advance oncology programs through the R&D pipeline.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designs and executes/conducts in vivo studies (e.g. syngeneic, humanized mouse models, GEMMs, adoptive transfer systems) aimed at drug discovery in the immuno-oncology space

  • Uses detailed knowledge of state-of-the-art tools and approaches to enhance in vivo evaluation of novel therapeutics mechanism of action and/or identify new targets.

  • Participates in oncology target identification and validation.

  • Demonstrates a high level of initiative in troubleshooting experiments and performing data analysis.

  • Effectively collaborates across all intra and cross functional teams.

  • Presents research findings to project teams and governance bodies and prepares technical reports.

  • Works with external academic, biotechnology, and contract research organizations to advance our understanding of oncology diseases.

  • Understands and adheres to IACUC protocols regarding animal welfare and handling.

  • Mentors and guides other scientists in the department; managerial experience preferred.

  • Commits to scientific rigor, high data quality and careful documentation.


Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Senior Scientist I/II : PhD in Immunology or a related discipline with 0+ (Sr Sci I) or 4+ (Sr Sci II) years of relevant research experience.

  • Hands-on expertise to design and perform complex in vivo experiments utilizing tumor models in both immunocompetent and immunocompromised mice; proficient in cell/drug administration via different routes (SC, IP, PO, IV).

  • Knowledgeable of secondary ex vivo cell-based assays across various technology platforms (e.g. FACS/cell sorting, imaging, ELISA/MSD, western blot/WES, IO-related culture systems, and omics-based approaches such as scRNA-seq) to assess target modulation levels and downstream effects at cellular, protein and gene level.

  • Extensive knowledge of immuno-oncology and tumor biology with proven publication record.

  • Demonstrated excellence and productivity in independent research.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Scientific leadership abilities and collaborative personality.

  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.

Preferred Requirements:

  • PhD with 2+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.

  • Hands-on experience and knowledge of humanized models, cell line-derived xenograft models, genetically engineered mouse models, adoptive immune cell transfer models, and/or in vivo genetic delivery platforms.

  • Extensive experience with T cell exhaustion, CAR-T, and in vivo targeted gene delivery.
