The Walt Disney Company’s Direct-to-Consumer and International segment (DTCI) is a global, multiplatform media, technology and distribution organization for high-quality content created by Disney’s Studio Entertainment and Media Networks groups.
DTCI includes Disney’s international media operations and the Company’s direct-to-consumer businesses globally, including the upcoming Disney-branded direct-to-consumer streaming service, the Company’s ownership stake in Hulu, and the ESPN+ sports streaming service, programmed in partnership with ESPN. BAMTECH Media, developer of the ESPN+ and Disney-branded streaming platforms, oversees all consumer-facing digital technology and products across the Company as part of the Direct-to-Consumer and International segment.

Responsibilities:For the role of Content Distribution Edge Engineer, Disney Streaming Services is looking for a candidate interested in caching technology and CDN edge services that can join as a junior member of our Content Distribution team. In this role, the edge engineer will be responsible for:
- Contribute to work with commercial and internal caching solutions for edge delivery
- Implement, review and oversee CDN deployments and changes with commercial providers
- Configure and manage edge implementation options across a growing scale of edge providers
- Work with edge service providers to troubleshoot issues in real time
- Participate in internal caching best practices for all edge based solutions
- Provide tier-2 on call evaluation, escalation and support
- Actively participate and guide caching architecture discussions with edge service providers
- Manage DNS for global scale, fail over and implementation
- Actively review performance metrics across CDNs and develop plans for improvements in concert with senior team members
- Knowledge of HTTP/DNS/Internet Architecture
- Virtualization (KVM, Containers)
- Cloud Technologies (AWS, GCP)
- Web Serving (NGINX, HAProxy)
- Caching (Varnish)
- Content Delivery Network Experience (Akamai, Limelight, Level 3, etc)
- Understanding of streaming video protocols (HLS) and how it interacts with caching
- Knowledge of video players and impact on cache logic
- Passion for Troubleshooting and Debugging
- Comfort with APIs
- BS/BA is preferred
