Job Overview
The Environmental Health & Safety Professional position at the Indiana Transmission Plant is responsible for managing, implementing and administering standardized EHS processes to ensure environment, health, and safety compliance to federal, state, provincial and local regulations as well as Corporate Policies and Procedures. The EHS Professional is expected to contribute to the achievement of world-class status and corporate savings through managing the elimination of occupational injuries/illnesses, property damage and environmental impacts. This position will specifically focus on improving and safeguarding the health and safety of all employees, ensuring compliance and all regulatory requirements, supporting World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Safety/Environment Pillar activities and Safety Management System (ISO 45001)/ Environment Management Systems (ISO 14001).
The EHS Professional position will report to the Plant EHS Lead and be responsible for these primary functions:

  • Oversee and implement EHS training programs and training assessments to ensure required training is identified and conducted
  • Conduct regular audits of EHS processes and necessary follow up to ensure compliance and advise plant leadership and corporate EHS staff of findings
  • Analyze injury/illness experience, identify/track injury correlation, determine root causes, determine corrective action and communicate this information to plant leadership and corporate EHS
  • Analyze environmental incidents, determine root causes, implement corrective action and communicate this information to plant leadership and corporate EHS
  • Manage new equipment programs at the concept stage to ensure that EHS design specifications and regulations are included
  • Ensure ergonomic processes implemented/ integrated in an appropriate manner
  • Manage routine safety and environmental reports including data acquisition, documentation, record keeping, monitoring, review, and approval
  • Coordinate communication of EHS regulatory inspection activity with plant leadership
  • Lead EHS projects to improve EHS key performance metrics
  • Manage, in partnership with medical, first aid and lost time cases to help ensure desired outcomes
  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of the plant’s s management system to meet ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and WCM Safety/Environmental Pillar requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering, Science or related field
  • Strong understanding of federal, state and local regulations and requirements
  • Willingness to work on any shift and additional hours as required
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership, analytical and problem solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering or related field
  • EHS related professional certifications (e.g. CSP, CIH, CHMM)
  • Internship in environmental, occupational safety and health or engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Automotive or manufacturing experience
