We’re looking for a capable, enthusiastic and self-motivated senior Highway Design Engineer who will work effectively within Highway Design team, based within the Regeneration and Culture service, to help us design and deliver key projects to across the borough .
The successful applicant will: - design a range of highway improvement schemes. - assist in the delivery of a range of highways engineering related projects. - assist to ensure that deadlines are met and within budget. - respond to client and customer enquiries taking messages, when necessary and ensuring that their needs are met. - ensure all project files are up to date and comply with internal standards. - work closely with team members. - assist the Technical Manager with report writing and preparation. - assist with the writing of technical reports. - assist with the development and maintenance of project and programme plans. - visit sites as required. - use best practice at all times. - have a relevant level 5 qualification or equivalent Shape a better future with us

Your role in our journey

As part of our Highway Design team, The role is based within the Regeneration and Culture service with a clear economic development focus working on town centre regeneration projects based in regeneration team, you’ll manage complex regeneration schemes to help us deliver the continuing the transformation of Barnsley Town Centre. Working with the team and other stakeholders, you’ll keep things on track and on budget. From procurement to delivery, every project will run smoothly using your technical expertise, knowledge and project management skills to lead and deliver regeneration projects so they’re on time and in budget. As programme manager, you will enjoy a varied range of responsibilities in continuing the transformation of Barnsley Town Centre. The council is facilitating this place based transformation, working with partners to create the right conditions for growth. We are seeking a passionate and focused candidate with a strong track record of delivery to help drive forward and realise the economic aspirations of Barnsley.

What you’ll need

To join our team, you will be have a relevant level 5 qualification or equivalent and will be able to demonstrate: - a track record for delivering highways projects, as part of a team of professional engineers. - working knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges / Specification for Highway Works relating to the design and maintenance of local authority highway and transport schemes. - working knowledge of the design and delivery of highway infrastructure projects using BIM/digital engineering software, systems and data. - site based highways experience, to provide sufficient understanding of build-ability, traffic management and construction programming. - good interpersonal skills - a team player with a 'can do' approach. This position is ideal for someone that is keen to develop their professional career, and learn new skills in the highways and civil sector, as well as becoming part of a great team environment.
