Part time position as researcher for the study of Civil society elites at Lund University

Research program civil society elites

The position as a researcher is associated with the research program Civil Society Elites? Comparing elite composition, reproduction, integration and contestation in European civil societies. Professor Håkan Johansson acts as the PI of the program and it brings together scholars from political sciences, sociology and social work with a common interest in civil society and elite studies.

The program aims to bridge elite and civil society studies in order to develop the first systematic and cross-country comparative analysis of civil society elites. It is a six-year program funded by the Swedish

Research tasks

The researcher is to participate in the program’s data collection in an Italian context, which includes making interviews with leaders of civil society organizations, conduct observations and other forms of ethnographic data collection. Some administrative tasks may be included, e.g. in terms of organizing meetings and seminars with representatives of Italian civil society organizations. Travel to Italy will be necessary but your daily activities will predominantly be at the workplace in Lund.

Formal requirements

You have a PhD degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. sociology, anthropology, political science or social work, or others with relevance for the program) and proven analytical skills in the areas of civil society and/or elite studies. Experience of comparative civil society/third sector studies is of particular significance, e.g. through comparative projects.

Experience of qualitative and ethnographic methods are particularly relevant for the position. Proficiency in spoken and written English and Italian is a requirement. Experience of data collection in an Italian context is a requirement. Personal qualifications and ability to collaborate with researchers within the program is of key significance.
