Job Description
The Associate Director for Medical Brand Excellence and Engagement will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of core, communication and strategic capabilities across Medical Affairs to drive excellence and innovation across the enterprise portfolio, with a focus on engagement with healthcare providers (HCP’s), external experts (EE’s) and other stakeholder communities (patient organizations, health care decision makers, etc.). This individual will be responsible for interacting at Director and VP levels within Medical Affairs & HEOR functions and other internal stakeholders (e.g., Corporate Analytics and Operations (CA&O), Commercial, Office of Ethics and Compliance (OEC), Legal, etc.) to develop, align and execute initiatives that advance external customer engagement, internal medical capabilities and integrated asset/brand strategy components across the HQ Medical Affairs organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for strategic leadership of Medical Affairs’ advanced or enhanced capabilities focused on holistic customer engagement and communication planning by proactively developing and gaining alignment on processes, innovative tools, and resources that facilitate Medical Affair’s team in establishing and executing on short-term functional objectives and tactical engagement plans integrated into a long-term cross functional brand strategy to enable the business and ultimately improve patients’ lives.

  • Drive capability evolution and adoption across Medical Affairs and the broader organization by working collaboratively with cross-functional partners. Engage and obtain buy-in from multiple stakeholders at multiple levels across organization and functions, including senior leadership (i.e., VPs from Medical Affairs and other functions).

  • Partner with Digital Lab team, to develop effective innovative multi-channel medical education approaches, including digital/technology solutions, e.g., “SciReach” or Multi Channel Medical Education (MCMe). Simplify and streamline the flow of customer engagement planning information, creating efficiencies from both a cost and time perspective where opportunities exist. Leverage learnings from US medical stakeholders and Market Analytics and Business Insights (MABI) colleagues to ensure approaches are grounded in customer insights and data driven decisions are made to ensure multi/omnichannel approach is kept in mind. Ensure appropriate prioritization of MCMe and SciReach initiatives across Medical Affairs assets and indications, and support resource planning and optimization.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align on the development of core strategic capabilities and lead the implementation in US Medical Affairs, including processes and resources including scientific platforms, integrated communication planning with a focus on multi/omni channel, evidence generation, and external expert interaction planning. Ensure clarity in the guidance, communication, and understanding of foundational components required to deliver core capabilities.

  • Partner with the Learning & Development team and serve as SME for evolving onboarding program focused on Medical Affairs engagement capabilities and functional planning.

  • Support organization to drive success in launch readiness, partnering with stakeholders ensuring effective planning and governance is in place. Serve as organizational SME on process, partnering within Medical Operations and the Strategy & Innovation team to ensure success. Implement creative learning opportunities year-round to ensure successful cross-sharing of ideas and lessons learned between Medical Affaris teams.

  • Without direct authority, integrates and manages cross-functional resources and information to achieve deliverables. Exhibits strong capabilities in dialogue with senior leaders, through clear presentation of key initiatives, and synthesis and action of leadership feedback.

  • Establish and lead creation of innovative, qualitative, and quantitative KPIs and metrics to measure success of tactical plans, customer experience and outcomes of holistic customer engagement plans. Conduct analysis to track execution and communicate team performance and recommendations of strategies to improve customer experience and/or execution to senior leadership.

  • Build and maintain strong and trusted relationships with key leaders to promote external customer engagement services as an integral stakeholder and partner in supporting achievement of organizational goals.

  • Stays abreast of professional information, industry trends, and emerging technology related to strategic planning, customer engagement/customer experience and Medical Affaris generated evidence/research through conferences, medical literature, and other available training to augment expertise in Medical Affairs and the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Leverage and share internal and external insights, best practices, and learnings with stakeholders to further establish innovative and valued processes and enabling resources for continued and increased business capabilities advancement.

Qualifications
  • Scientific degree; advanced degree (e.g., MS, PhD, MD/DO, PharmD, NP, MSN) preferred.

  • 3-5 years of clinical, scientific/research, or industry related experience or equivalent required demonstrating strong leadership competencies and proven team-building skills with ability to lead in a global matrixed environment. Substantial understanding of relevant therapeutic area required.

  • Knowledge of clinical trial design, results and methodology, regulatory and compliance requirements governing development of promotional and non-promotional materials is desirable.

  • Ability to interact externally and internally to support global scientific and business strategy.

  • Ability to independently evaluate risk and implement strategies that are compliant with applicable regulatory standards pertinent to the promotion of pharmaceutical products

  • Demonstrated analytical, conceptual and administrative skills. Excellent communication skills (written and presentation).

  • Flexibility and adaptability to organizational change and market demands. Ability to work in a fast-paced corporate environment. High sense of urgency and commitment to excellence in the successful achievement of objectives.

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and ability to demonstrate good business judgment.

  • Strong Project Management and Teamwork skills to address project risks and issues.
