We are looking for a highly qualified researcher to join the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports at the University of Copenhagen. The successful applicant will be specialized in human exercise physiology with a strong translational and mechanistic profile.
The optimal research profile includes physiological and metabolic effects of physical activity and inactivity. Substantial experience in human exercise physiology is expected, preferably combined with skills from biochemistry, animal transgenics, molecular cell biology and ‘omics. Expertise within the following areas of research will be relevant to the strategic mission of the department: human exercise physiology and nutrition, endocrinology, metabolic regulation, skeletal muscle adaptations to activity/inactivity, molecular cell biology including signal transduction and human in vitro modeling.
The successful candidate will have a substantial publication record, including publications in high-impact journals, within a relevant research area. They will have international experience and have conducted independent teaching within their area of expertise at higher education institutions. Management and leadership skills are expected.
Applicants must demonstrate outstanding knowledge of national and international funding possibilities and present a funding plan for strategic expansion of the research area over the next 5 years. The successful candidate will be expected to strengthen the molecular mechanistic profile of the department and to complement the department´s human research, e.g. by exploring new intra- and inter-sectional research collaborations “from molecule to man” and organizing scientific meetings.
Applicants are required to have solid teaching experience at university level (BSc, MSc and PhD), documented teaching competencies, and must be able to explain and reflect upon their own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required.
Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare, and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.
Six overall criteria apply for professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organizational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for an overall assessment of the candidates.
